Jatobá stand-alone closets
A pair of tall stand-alone wardrobes in solid and veneered jatobá — full-height push-to-open doors, mitred tops, and concealed hinges throughout, built as freestanding pieces that move with the owner rather than being fixed to the wall.
Finished pair — workshop
Overview
Two tall wardrobes built as a matched pair in jatobá — a dense, warm Brazilian hardwood — chosen so they could stand on their own in the room without needing to be scribed or screwed to a wall. Each cabinet sits on a recessed plinth and reads as a single block, with the grain run vertically across the doors and gables for one continuous figure.
The doors are full-height and handle-free: a slim vertical reveal between each pair acts as the pull, and push-to-open soft-close hinges do the rest. The tops are mitred to the gables so no end grain shows from any angle, and the carcasses are veneered jatobá over a stable substrate to keep the tall doors flat over time.
Inside, each carcass is fitted out for hanging and shelving with adjustable supports, ready to be moved into the apartment, levelled on the plinths, and lived with — no fixings into the walls, no site-built scribes.
