Solid ash coffee table with angled legs

A low, generously proportioned coffee table in solid ash — a thick slab top on eight angled, tapered legs that splay outward, built in the atelier from rough boards through to finished piece.

Overview

A low coffee table built entirely from solid ash. The top is a thick, edge-glued slab with mitred returns on the long sides so no end grain shows, sitting on eight tapered legs that lean outward in both directions.

Each leg is cut from a single block of ash, tapered on four faces, and fixed to the underside of the top with a steel mounting plate so the connection stays tight as the wood moves. The legs are arranged in two rows, splaying gently to give the heavy slab a light, lifted stance.

Photographed through the build — rough boards being jointed and doweled, the slab glued up and trimmed with a track saw, the legs shaped at the router table, and the finished piece on the bench before hardwax oil.
